My personal journey with integrative medicine began more than 20 years ago when I was working as a GP. I felt incredibly disillusioned with the traditional medical model. The quick consultations, drug-focused treatments, and masking of symptoms seemed so far removed from what I had always believed medicine should be.
It wasn’t until I realised that my own chronic stress was affecting my health – from my gut health to my hormonal health and even my skin health – that I started searching for alternative solutions. It wasn’t until a friend introduced me to nutritional medicine in 2013 that I discovered the missing piece of the puzzle.
Learning about nutrient deficiencies, gut health, hormonal health, and the impact of stress and environmental toxins on our health felt like learning medicine all over again. I was amazed that, as a GP, I hadn’t been taught how effective integrative strategies could help our bodies heal naturally. In that moment, I discovered my passion to help others find solutions to their chronic symptoms and improve the quality of their health and their lives.
That’s why I founded MINT, an integrative natural therapies clinic where we could educate patients on the impact of stress and chronic disease. My ultimate goal is always to help patients achieve lasting health and wellness, so they no longer need to rely on medication or frequent doctor visits.
Looking back on my journey now, I’m so grateful that I followed my intuition and found a path that aligned with my beliefs about what medicine should be. If you’re reading this and considering MINT for your health needs, thank you! We can’t wait to help you on your journey towards optimal health and wellbeing.

Are you working in front of a computer for long hours in the day? Do you suffer from neck, shoulder or lower back pain that doesn’t seem to go away? Has life got so busy and stressful and now your body is saying that’s enough?
Here’s how Hayley, Clinical Myotherapist, can help you.
She has specialised in the following:
Hayley incorporates deep tissue movements, trigger points and myofascial release to help
Hayley also educates her clients on how daily movements can affect muscles and cause discomfort. These simple changes incorporated into normal activities can transform the recovery rate and prevent injury.
What’s the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage?
This form of treatment gets its name from the myofascial it addresses- which are thin sheets of tissue around the muscles in our tendons and ligaments. The prefix “myo” is the Greek term for muscle- hence the name.
By combining the principles of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics to treat the human body, myotherapy utilises a range of evidence-based approaches to treat muscular pain and dysfunction.
Myotherapists focus on trigger point therapy. This involves applying pressure to specific points of the body in order to reduce discomfort and tension. It may also draw on other techniques such as deep tissue massage, muscle stretching, dry needling and range of rehabilitation exercises.
The primary difference between remedial massage and myotherapy is the fact that myotherapists use a much broader range of techniques to identify the underlying cause of the injury, whereas remedial massage therapy simply treats the problem which involves deep tissue massage.
Hayley understands the journey of chronic pain from a personal experience. As a result, she is passionate about helping others heal and to feel empowered about their health again. She is also part of the clinical myotherapy team with Rugby’s Melbourne Storm and Rebels along with basketball’s Melbourne United.
Hayley is incredible. I don’t know how she knows where my “knots” are in my muscles. I work in front of a computer 10 hours a day and I realised I need to see Hayley at least twice a month to not be in chronic pain. She has magic hands and is able to release the pain points. I always leave feeling amazing. Kumudu T
Chinese traditions suggest that acupuncture is around 5000 years old.
Acupuncture points, when stimulated appropriately (either by fine needles, laser or pressure) produce specific reproducible effects locally and sometimes distally in other parts of the body.
Some very sensitive people (“strong responders”) can sometimes experience lines of “propagated sensation” when these points are stimulated. These correspond to Acupuncture Meridians which are the energy channels in the body.
Illness is due to an imbalance of flow of the body’s vital energy (Qi) in the organs and through the energy channels of the body (acupuncture meridians).
Pain is due to the build up of “stagnant Qi” behind a blockage in the meridian.
Acupuncture points are special responsive points in the meridian which can unblock or change the flow of Qi energy in that channel.
L.A.S.E.R – Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation Developed in 1960s.
Specific frequencies of light have particular effects on the human body.
Red light- boost cell metabolism and cell function through interaction with mitochondria.
Low powered lasers used for therapeutic effects in Western Medicine is called Photo Bio Modulation Therapy (PBM or PBMT) or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). Used to reduce inflammation, tissue oedema, healing wounds and nerves, treating neurological problems and relieving pain.
Laser acupuncture “stimulates” classical acupuncture points or can de-activate trigger points in muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and periosteum. It works via direct neural effects locally, segmentally, distally, and systematically, and involves many of the same neurological pathways as needle acupuncture.
Acupuncture has an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, immune boosting and vitality-boosting effect. It can rebalance the autonomic nervous system, improve neuroplasticity, reduce neuro- sensitisation, rebalance muscle function and reduce muscle spasm.
Conditions that can be treated:
. acute and chronic pain -insomnia
. depression
. anxiety
. stroke or head injury recovery
. nausea and vomiting (morning sickness/chemotherapy/post-operative) -digestive issues (constipation/heartburn/irritable bowel syndrome/hiccups) -infertility
. improve vision
. cognitive clarity
Painless and more subtle stimulus (compared to needles).
Preferred in children, sensitive people, needle phobic, immunocompromised. No risk of infection or of damaging organs with a needle.
Laser acupuncture should not be applied:
. directly into the open eye
. over cancer tissue
. over openings in the skull
. to the belly of a pregnant woman
. over electrical implants – pacemakers, etc
. on the head in severe unstable epilepsy
. caution for some acupuncture points in pregnant women
Laser acupuncture is very safe. Some people can experience mild, short term side effects such as drowsiness, nausea, feeling dizzy and faint.
Occasionally there can be an aggravation (which can be severe, extended and disabling) of initial symptoms, sometimes followed by significant improvement of symptoms. This is more common with sensitive patients (strong or hyper responders).
It is usually a good idea to be well nourished (food and water) before a treatment to decrease the risk of side effects. Resting after an acupuncture treatment is also advisable. It can take between 2-14 days for the full effects of an acupuncture treatment to manifest.
The optimal frequency of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and the sensitivity to laser acupuncture. Acute conditions are better managed with more frequent sessions (daily or second daily). Chronic conditions may require less frequent sessions (weekly to monthly).
Most patients will have derived some benefits after 3 regular sessions. In a small proportion of patients, needle acupuncture may be more beneficial than laser acupuncture.
